Mateo 27:27-31:
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him. And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.
Description:
According to the Bible, the Roman soldiers put a crown of thorns on Jesus' head as a way to mock him. This event is described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and John. The crown of thorns was intended to be a symbol of Jesus' claim to be a king, as well as a means of inflicting further pain and humiliation on him. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, which would have been sharp and painful, and pressed it down onto Jesus' head. The thorns would have pierced his skin and caused him to bleed. This act was part of the Roman soldiers' cruel treatment of Jesus before his crucifixion.
