And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”
Description:
Elijah was a prophet in Israel during the reign of King Ahab and his wife Queen Jezebel. He is known for his confrontation with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, where he called down fire from heaven to prove that the Lord is the one true God. Elijah's name means "My God is Yahweh" in Hebrew. He was also known as Elijah the Tishbite, which means he was from the town of Tishbe in the region of Gilead.
